The Leafy Seadragon Aquarium Genotyping Project
Leafy Seadragons have never successfully reproduced in captivity. If aquaria would succeed in such breeding efforts, the number of individuals taken from the wild could be reduced. In collaboration with a number of aquaria, this project aims at assessing the available genetic variation in captive individuals to recommend appropriate breeding pairs. Once we have a clearer understanding of the available gene pool, aquariums may increase their chances of successful breeding through coordinated and voluntary exchanges of individuals.
